Acupuncture is one of the oldest healing practices in the world, rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). For thousands of years, it has been used to restore balance, relieve pain, and support overall wellbeing. Today, acupuncture continues to be practiced worldwide, blending ancient wisdom with modern research.
What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture involves inserting very thin, sterile needles into specific points on the body. These points lie along pathways called meridians, which are thought to carry the body’s vital energy, known as Qi (pronounced “chee”). When Qi is blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to discomfort or illness. By stimulating these points, acupuncture helps restore the flow of energy and bring the body back into harmony.
From a modern medical perspective, acupuncture is believed to stimulate the nervous system, increase blood circulation, and release natural pain-relieving chemicals like endorphins. It is a holistic therapy that addresses not only physical symptoms but also the mind and emotions.
A Family Legacy of Healing
For me, acupuncture isn’t just a theory—it’s part of my family’s story. My parents have been acupuncturists and practicing Traditional Chinese Medicine for nearly 30 years. For over two decades, they’ve run their own clinic, helping countless patients find relief—especially with pain management and hormone balance.
Beyond their practice, they’ve also volunteered internationally for more than 15 years, dedicating their skills to communities in need and making a difference across borders (Recap of the most recent humanitarian trip to Nepal in March 2025). Their commitment has shaped how I see wellness: not as a quick fix, but as a lifelong practice of care, compassion, and balance. Growing up with acupuncture, it always felt like a normal part of my life. Only now do I truly appreciate its roots, its impact, and the incredible benefits it offers in the world of natural, holistic healing.

Fast forward today to 2025, we’re expanding this legacy with a new branch in Brea, CA called The Healing House (follow along! @thehealinghousebyhb). While my parents’ clinic focuses on clinical treatments, The Healing House blends those same healing roots with a more holistic, spa-like experience. It’s a space for acupuncture, self-care rituals, and deeper healing practices. We’re currently in a soft opening phase with limited availability and Phase 1 of our Treatment Menu, but it already feels like a special place to bring our vision of integrative healing, community sessions, and product collection to life.
Alongside this, I’m also working on Houlistic, a product line inspired by the same values of Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern beauty. It’s designed to bring the wisdom of holistic healing into everyday rituals.

What to Expect in a Session
During an acupuncture session, your practitioner will talk with you about your health history and current concerns. You’ll lie comfortably while very fine needles are gently placed at specific points. Most people feel little to no pain—some even feel deeply relaxed or fall asleep during the session. Afterward, you may feel lighter, calmer, or more energized.
This photo was taken during our soft opening! My friend tried acupuncture for the first time! At The Healing House, we start every session with a breathwork and aromatherapy ritual. My friend chose to use Relief Roll-on Remedy for an uplifting blend.
A Gentle Reminder
Acupuncture is not a quick fix, but a practice of restoring balance over time. Whether you’re seeking relief from pain, support for your emotional health, or simply a way to feel more connected to your body, acupuncture offers a holistic approach that honors both science and tradition. It’s a practice of caring for the whole self—body, mind, and spirit.
